Wirksworth go top of Derbyshire Ladies League

With Mickleover’s game against Chesterfield Development postponed due to Covid cases, the chasing pack had an opportunity to close the gap.

Wirksworth had to come back from 3-1 down to claim a draw at home to Draycott, but the point was enough to put them above Mickleover on goal difference, albeit having played a game more.

Third placed Pride Park twice led but a last minute equaliser for AFC Mercia meant they also had to settle for a point.

In the Division’s other game, Belper Town took all three points with a narrow win at Ilkeston Town Development.

Division Two has been split into three groups, with the top four teams going into end of season play-offs.

In Division 2 North, it is shaping up into a two way battle between Chesterfield Inspire Blues and Matlock Town, who continued their good runs with wins at Stanton Ilkeston and Belper Town Development respectively.

Matlock’s win maintains their record as the only unbeaten team in either Division. Shirebrook Rangers finally got their season underway with a point at Castle Donington.

In the South, Sandiacre Town maintained their comfortable lead at the top with victory over Sleetmoor United. Belper, Castle Donington and Stanton Ilkeston are in a three-way fight for the remaining places.

Woodlands Reserves hold a comfortable lead in the West, which was enhanced by a resounding win against fourth placed Vipers. University of Derby remain second despite defeat to third placed Hilton Harriers.
