WELCOME: A message from the editor

Welcome to DerbyshireFootball.com and thanks for dropping by to take a look at what we've got on offer.

I thought the first of what we expect to be many 'opinion' columns on this site may as well come from the person who created it!

This site has been produced as a kind of 'one stop shop' for as much football-related news, opinion, stats and so on related to Derbyshire's many football clubs.

I've been covering football as a journalist in this county and beyond for over 15 years, from following Derby County in the Championship and to Wembley right through to the trials and tribulations of the likes of Ilkeston Town and Matlock Town among others, and in that time have seen just how much love there is for the game in these parts, whether at the highest levels or down at grass roots.

My background is, and remains, in regional press and many changes have taken place in that field with regard to how sport is covered both in print and online. With priorities changing all the time as to which areas of the game get most coverage, the media presence of some clubs has diminished aside from their own social media channels. This site will aim to help fill that gap as well as providing news and views from the professional clubs too.

As well as working side-by-side with the clubs where possible, we'll also generate plenty of original content, whether it's through opinion columns written by supporters, match coverage from our own staff, or online galleries.

Each club from Derby County down to step five of the non-league pyramid has its own news page with stories relevant to the club or the league and competitions it competes in (big stories will also appear on the site's front page), as well as a results and fixtures page which includes all matches played and scheduled and who scored the goals! For clubs down to step four there is also a squad page with links to player profiles where available.

Steps six and seven have their own pages, as do ladies football and junior football so we welcome any contributions for any of those sections.

With so many clubs to keep on top of, we welcome hearing of any amendments that need to be made so by all means e-mail editor@derbyshirefootball.com if you spot something that needs changing or updating. Also get in touch if you'd like to contribute regularly to the site in any way, particularly as a writer or photographer. All roles are voluntary for now but full credit will be given to any work published.

In the coming weeks, we hope to produce a pilot episode of the DerbyshireFootball.com Podcast, hosted by myself and local radio journalist Joshua Smith, and which will see us discuss the main issues in Derbyshire football as well as having guests on for a chat as well.

It should be highlighted that this website isn't, as yet, a full-time operation as other work commitments will remain in place, but we'll aim to be as up-to-date as possible all of the time.

We're open to any offers of sponsorship both for the website and/or the podcast, while advertising space will also be available - whether on all pages or just club or league-specific ones.

So, I hope you find the site useful. We have a presence on Twitter and on Facebook so please like and share our content as it's published on those channels.

Thanks again and I hope to get to as many clubs as possible over the course of the season!
