Sparkling Spireites smash six past Barnet
Akwasi Asante hit a hat-trick as Chesterfield put in their best display of the season so far to overcome Barnet 6-0 at the Technique Stadium on Saturday.
The result continued new boss James Rowe's promising start to life with the Spireites and lifted his side to 15th in the National League standings.
The hosts dominated from the off and Scott Boden saw an early header go wide, then Tom Whelan was denied by Jerome Binnom-Williams' tackle when in on goal 12 minutes into the encounter.
Mahammadu Faal put a good opening wide of the post for the visitors, but Asante would soon make his mark for the home side.
Having had a sighter miss the target from close range on the half-hour mark, ten minutes later Asante was put through on goal by Jak McCourt and he finished well past Scott Loach in the Bees goal.
The Spireites then took further control in the second-half, first Boden heading wide and then George Carline and Joel Taylor going close.
But Boden soon got his goal on 55 minutes as he lashed the ball in from close range following good work from McCourt and Taylor.
Three minutes later it was 3-0, Haydn Hollis scoring from close range for his second goal in the space of a few days following a McCourt corner.
It was four on 75 minutes, Asante firing home from Whelan's pass, then three minutes later he completed his hat-trick by carrying the ball from the touchline inside and firing home from inside the penalty area.
Spireites weren't done there, as after Kyle Letheren had denied Dean Parrett to keep Barnet out, McCourt notched the sixth goal in the last minute as he turned home Liam Mandeville's cross to round off the win.
