Matlock get FA Trophy lifeline for Coalville trip

Matlock Town look set to be able to play their FA Trophy third qualifying round tie at Coalville Town after all.

With the Gladiators forced out of action due to positive COVID-19 tests within their squad, the required period of isolation necessary for those affected was initially thought to envelope the FA Trophy third qualifying round weekend, therefore the Gladiators were initially forced to think they'd need to forfeit the tie.

However, the FA have now highlighted that, unlike in the FA Cup, clubs in the FA Trophy have five days to fulfil the fixture should it be postponed on its original date. With Matlock's isolation period initially ending in time for them to travel to Atherton Collieries in the league next Tuesday, they'll instead go to Coalville.

A club statement said: "Following clarification from both the NPL and the FA that following the COVID issues the club has been dealing with and which has led to us having to postpone the two home matches against Scarborough and Nantwich, we can return to playing football from Tuesday, November 3.

"The rules in the Buildbase FA Trophy are different from those being applied this year in the Emirates FA Cup competition and this means that the Coalville Town vs Matlock Town third qualifying round tie will now take place at the Owen Streets Sports Ground with a 7.45pm kick-off.

"Coalville Town has decided to restrict the number of spectators 500 as they did for the original Saturday match and tickets can now be purchased from their online system."
