Long Eaton open with a draw at Bridlington

NPL East

Bridlington Town 1

Dennison 7

Long Eaton Utd 1

Campbell 65

Kam Campbell's second-half equaliser earned a point on the road in Long Eaton United's opening Northern Premier League match.

Bridlington Town led at the break courtesy of an early opener from Lewis Dennison, but in the 65th minute Campbell scored from the bench to level the match.

The Blues were down to ten men in the 77th minute after a late challenge from Brad Wilson, but they managed to hold on for a point away from home.

The hosts took an early lead through Dennison in the seventh minute. Full back Benn Lewis made a run down the right wing and crossed the ball in for Dennison to glance a header past Sam Wilson and into the bottom corner of the goal.

Alex Marshall led the line for The Blues and almost found an equaliser within a minute. Jack Rogers crossed the ball in from out wide and Marshall's headed effort was denied by the woodwork.

For the remainder of the first-half, Long Eaton looked dangerous but could not find the back of the net.

Brad Wilson's bullet header was cleared off the line by Edward Rogerson and moments later The Seasiders goalkeeper James Hitchcock denied Alex Marshall's flick on at the near post as the half came to a close.

The Blues looked like a revitalised side in the second half.

Keiran Walker's long throws caused trouble for Brid's back line, Brad Wilson flicked on a delivery from the centre half to Tom Marshall, who saw his volley blocked on the line by Jack Bulless.

A corner whipped in by Rogers was met by Alex Marshall as he arrived late at the back post; however, the angle was too tight for the number nine to find the target.

Fresh off the substitutes bench, James Taylor played a neat one-two with Micah Jebbison down the right wing before the Canadian winger squared the ball for Campbell to take a touch and score with a composed finish in the 65th minute.

Andrew Norfolk had a chance to fire the hosts back in front but Sam Wilson rushed off his line to close down the angle and make the save.

With 13 minutes left to play The Blues were reduced to ten men as Brad Wilson was dismissed for a late slide tackle by the touchline.

Dennison and Bulless had half chances in injury time but Long Eaton United remained resolute in defence and held on to the point.
