Frustration for Rams as hosts Charlton take the points

Sky Bet League One

Charlton Athletic 1 (Taylor-Blackett 62)

Derby County 0

Derby County couldn't build on a promising first-half display as hosts Charlton ultimately took the points in South London on Saturday.

The Rams were wasteful in the first-half, James Collins seeing an early good chance saved by Joe Wollacott, then seeing another strike hit the post just before half-time.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing was also denied by the Charlton keeper on two occasions as the Rams couldn't get the vital opener.

And they'd pay just after the hour mark as Albie Morgan's effort was parried away by Joe Wildsmith in the Derby goal and Corey Blackett-Taylor was on hand to net the rebound.

Jason Knight headed a great chance wide just afterwards for Derby, from Max Bird's fine cross, and that summed up the Rams' afternoon.

Wildsmith then denied Morgan again late on as Charlton pushed for a second, the Rams unable to force a leveller and Charlton taking the points.

Derby head to Mansfield on Tuesday night in the first round of the EFL Cup.
