First-half double sees Rams earn crucial win over Swansea

Colin Kazim-Richards and Kamil Jozwiak helped Derby County on their way to a much needed 2-0 victory over promotion hopefuls Swansea City at Pride Park on Wednesday night.

Kazim-Richards scored the opener before Jozwiak sealed all three points moments before half-time.

Derby wasted no time in taking the lead as Kazim-Richards put the hosts ahead inside four minutes. Graeme Shinnie started the move, floating a free-kick into Swansea’s penalty area which fell to Lee Buchanan, whose deft touch set up Kazim-Richards to prod home from close range.

The Rams then doubled their advantage fewer than ten minutes before half-time. Jason Knight’s attempted cross was deflected into the path of Martyn Waghorn, who, with his back to goal, laid the ball neatly into the path of Jozwiak. The Poland international finished emphatically into the top left-hand corner, ensuring Derby had a two-goal cushion heading into the break.

Despite an influx of early second-half substitutions by the Swans’ manager Steve Cooper, the Rams stood strong and limited their opposition to very few chances as they secured their third win of the campaign.

On the other hand, Swansea will be disappointed as they fell to just their fourth defeat of the season.
