Draycott are too strong for Mickleover as ladies return to action

The Derbyshire Ladies League resumed after the five week lockdown hiatus, although it was a reduced fixture list with only two games played in Division One.

In the top-of-the-table meeting at Draycott, Beth Jones and Paris Kiernan scored for Mickleover to set up a potentially interesting finish after Draycott raced into a 3-0 lead, but the home side’s nerves were steadied with another goal to seal a 4-2 win that sends them top of the League, a point clear of Wirksworth and Mickleover. Draycott’s scorers were Farrah O’Connor (2), Lucy Ferris, and Sarah Upton.

In the other game in Division One, SK Vipers were at Chesterfield Development and came away with three points thanks to a 2-1 victory with goals from Ellie Mason and Sofia Morrisey. Christy Long was the scorer for the hosts.

In Division Two, Matlock slipped to their first defeat of the season despite fighting back from 3-0 down with goals from Unwin, Green and Foster-Twigg but a long range shot sealed the win and three points for Stanton Ilkeston. Caines, Murden, Henshaw and Marriot scored for the visitors.

In the absence of a first team game, Woodlands took advantage again of the relaxation of League rules to draft in three first teamers to bolster their line up against Hilton Harriers, and were rewarded with goals from Jody Scott, Anna Webster and C. Hall in a 3-1 win.
