Derbyshire trio exit the FA Trophy in disappointing night

Three Derbyshire sides saw their FA Trophy hopes ended on Tuesday night as all of them were knocked out of the competition at the first round stage.

In what was the first competitive action for several weeks, Buxton, Matlock Town and Mickleover FC all exited the competition and now face a wait until at least after Christmas before playing again.

Buxton were beaten by a late winner as they hosted City of Liverpool. Jack Hazlehurst had put the visitors in front midway through the first-half, only for Diego de Girolamo to level the scores with ten minutes to go.

However, Hazlehurst struck again with the game going into injury-time to secure the Merseysiders' passage through.

Matlock, like their local rivals, were also beaten by lower league opposition as hosts Coleshill Town ran out convincing 5-2 winners.

A mistake by Adam Yates saw him put the ball in his own net to put Coleshill in front on 18 minutes, then Kai Tonge netted a second.

Ryan Qualter pulled one back for Matlock just before half-time, but Coleshill ran away with the tie in the second-half as Josh Willis, Tonge again and Giovanni Dainty put them 5-1 up before Dec Walker's late consolation.

Mickleover, meanwhile, travelled to Hertfordshire to face Hitchin Town but were dispatched 3-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Luke Brown.
