Derbyshire sides progress in the FA Cup
Four Derbyshire sides have progressed into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup after winning their respective ties on Tuesday night.
Biggest winners were Buxton, who overcame county rivals Belper Town 7-0 at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium. James Hurst put the Bucks into an early lead before hat-tricks from James Walshaw and Diego de Girolamo capped a rampant win - both sides having been reduced to ten men before half-time.
Matlock Town had Liam Hughes' second-half double to thank for their victory at Quorn, while Ilkeston Town got through a tricky tie at Coventry Sphinx by a similar scoreline, late sub Mason Lee scoring with his first touch and then Jack Thomas lobbing the keeper from 40 yards to see them through.
Mickleover Sports, meanwhile, won 2-1 at Leek Town thanks to goals in each half from Stuart Beavon and and Dec Bacon.
There was disappointment for Long Eaton United, however, who put up a valiant display at Southern Premier League side Hednesford Town. Having gone 2-0 down, two quick goals from Alex Marshall and Danny Gordon got the Blues level before Danny Glover's stoppage time winner sent the hosts through.
The draw for the second qualifying round will be released on Friday (25th) at 1pm.
