Derbyshire Ladies League - Wirksworth flying high

Week two of the Derbyshire Ladies League saw Wirksworth continue a strong start to the season with a resounding win at Ilkeston Town Development, scoring four without reply to take an early lead at the top of the table.

Mickleover bounced back from an opening day defeat to Wirksworth with a home win against Pride Park. In a relatively even game all the goals came in the second half. Beth Jones opened the scoring for Mickleover from the spot three minutes after the restart, and was clinical in front of goal, grabbing all four of her team’s goals, whilst Pride Park hit the woodwork twice and had several good opportunities but apart from Tash Allderidge’s well taken 53rd minute penalty could not beat Mickleover’s former Nottingham Forest, Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion ‘keeper Vanessa Kinnerley.

In Division Two, Sandiacre recorded the biggest win of the day scoring seven without reply at home to Belper Town Development. Woodlands Reserves scored three and kept a clean sheet to win at Sleetmoor.

Newcomers Stanton Ilkeston put their first point on the board with a draw at Castle Donington. No such luck for the Division’s other newcomers - Vipers, who fell to a second successive defeat, away at Matlock, or for University of Derby who were beaten in their opening game at Chesterfield Inspire Blues.
