Derbyshire Ladies League round-up - Draycott hold in-form Mickleover

A round-up of the latest action from the Derbyshire Ladies League:

In the top division the early leaders Mickleover couldn’t maintain their winning streak despite Beth Jones’ ninth goal in four games, but remain unbeaten in three after drawing at home to Draycott.

Draycott took an early lead, but then Mickleover equalised and then went ahead, only for Draycott to draw level for a share of the points. Wirksworth started the day in second but a narrow defeat at Pride Park put paid to their hopes of regaining top spot. In a close and entertaining game Pride Park lead twice and were pegged back twice, but an Izzy Ely header after 64 minutes proved decisive and secured the first points of the season for the hosts.

Chesterfield Development also secured their first win of the season, returning from SK Vipers with all the points, while AFC Mercia bounced back from their opening day defeat with an emphatic win away at Ilkeston Town Development.  With the exception of Belper Town, who didn’t play this weekend, all the teams in the top division have now played at least two games, and none have an unbeaten record - showing just how tight and competitive the division is.

Mickleover retain top spot with seven points from four games, Wirksworth are a point behind (also having played four games) and Draycott are third on four points from their three games. All of the remaining six teams - from fourth to ninth - are separated by goal difference on three points.  In Division Two there was a feast of goals in Buxton with ten shared between Vipers and Castle Donington, but the hosts’ seven goals secured the three points.  Woodlands Reserves remain unbeaten after their win against Belper Town Development, and there was a second win on the bounce for University of Derby against Stanton Ilkeston. It ended all square between Hilton and Sandiacre.  Division One: SK Vipers 1-2 Chesterfield Dev Ilkeston Town Dev 1- 6 AFC Mercia Mickleover Sports -2-2 Draycott Victoria Pride Park 3-2 Wirksworth Colts Division Two: Hilton Harriers 2-2 Sandiacre Town Woodlands Res 4- 1 Belper Town Dev Vipers 7-3 Castle Donington University of Derby 3-2 Stanton Ilkeston
