Chesterfield are forced to replay FA Cup tie at Stockport
Chesterfield are not yet through to the FA Cup first round proper after all - due to an administrative error ahead of their fourth qualifying round tie at Stockport County.
The Spireites won that game on penalties to earn a trip to Rochdale in the next round - due to be played this weekend - but it has been deemed that loanee defender Jordan Cropper was ineligible to play as the relevant forms proving he had permission from his parent club, Burnley, to play in the tie had not been submitted. That represented a breach in the FA Cup rule book.
The tie will therefore have to be replayed on Wednesday, with Cropper unable to take part.
Chief executive John Croot said: “It is unfortunate that a technical issue resulted in an administrative procedure not being completed.
“The FA panel considered our submission, ruled that the tie would have to be replayed and we have to accept their decision.”
