Belper go top after victory at Glossop

Belper Town hit the top of the NPL South East table with a hard-earned 2-1 win at Glossop North End on Saturday.

It was the Nailers' second away win on the bounce and was played out in misty conditions in the Peak District, all three of the goals coming in the first-half.

Belper began the stronger side, Nathan Curtis, Craig Nelthorpe, Steve McDonnell and Piteu Crouz all going close in the opening quarter of the game.

And they got a deserved lead on 26 minutes when Sam Wright's fine strike from the edge of the penalty area found the net for a superb opener.

However, Glossop were level within four minutes. Nailers keeper Leigh Overton had saved an effort from Remeece Brown but almost immediately Kyle Fitton volleyed home the equaliser.

The Nailers refused to let that affect them and responded with their second goal seven minutes before half-time, Crouz benefiting from Will Hartshorne's error to finish well into the far corner of the net.

Glossop would put plenty of pressure on in the second-half although McDonnell and Tyreece Robinson nearly added a third for the Nailers.

In the end the visitors held out well and deservedly took the three points.
