Another late goal sees Spireites beaten

Alex Reid struck five minutes from time to condemn Chesterfield to their second late defeat in the space of four days.

Having lost in stoppage time to Torquay in midweek, this time Spireites lost on their own patch as Stockport proved too strong.

Tom Denton went close early on for the hosts before then seeing a goal disallowed for offside.

And County would take advantage by then going in front, as Mark Kitching fired home from 20 yards out after taking possession on the left-hand side.

But Spireites got level on 36 minutes as defender Jordan Cropper capitalised on County being unable to clear their lines and struck a low shot into the corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

Denton headed another disallowed goal before the break, with there also being time for Kyle Letheren to save well from Jordan Keane at close range.

County keeper Ben Hinchliffe saved well from Luke Rawson early in the second period as Spireites looked to get themselves in front, Connor Jennings heading just wide at the other end.

Spireites then had to begin defending in earnest late on as Reid and Jennings saw efforts blocked by Letheren and defender Milan Butterfield respectively.

Reid's winner then sealed the points, as a scramble in the penalty area ended with Reid heading the ball in off the underside of he crossbar.

Denton had a late header saved as Spireites pressed for a leveller, but it wasn't to be.
