Alfreton sign experienced Atkinson and promising goalkeeper
Alfreton Town have announced the signings of midfielder Will Atkinson and goalkeeper Alfie Smith-Eccles.
Atkinson came through the youth ranks at Hull City before joining Port Vale on loan back in 2007, and had further spells at the likes of Southend United, Rochdale, Bradford City, Mansfield Town and Rotherham. He has amassed over 300 league appearances during his career, including winning promotion with Bradford City and playing in a League Cup final for the Bantams against Swansea in 2013.
He then re-joined Port Vale in October 2019 on a short term deal before signing until the end of the 2019-20 season. Atkinson was then released by the Vale before joining Alfreton.
Smith-Eccles has had a promising young career after coming through the Matlock Town academy, featuring for Selston and Frickley Athletic and going on trial at Sheffield United.
