Alfreton aim to build on FA Cup win in league opener

Alfreton Town begin their National League North campaign tonight (Monday) as they visit Curzon Ashton.

The Reds got their competitive season underway on Saturday with a 2-1 win at Southern Premier League side Coalville Town in the FA Cup second qualifying round.

Alfreton opened the scoring after just two minutes when a cross from Bobby Johnson was only cleared to Dom Smith who curled a fine effort into the net.

Jake Day then struck the second on 21 minutes after a flick on from James Jones.

Coalville's Billy Kee then saw a penalty saved by George Willis before Tim Berridge pulled a goal back just a minute later, but Alfreton held on to progress and earn a tie at FC United of Manchester in the next round on October 13.
